NETS-T 5
This is an assessment I took at www.classroom20.com that evaluated areas as a teaching professional that I can further develop.
I chose the NETS-T standard, Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership, because I am interested in developing myself professionally in the educational world. I learned that there are many blogs out there that can help keep educators up to date on technology advances as well as collaborative resources showing how to implement them in the classroom. One web site I found (Teacher Reboot Camp) helped with short term and long term goals for using technology in the classroom. Not all of the lessons presented involve using technology but they are a good way to lighten up the classroom and get students involved in something that is not textbook oriented. With effective instructional methods you can incorporate technology and even let the students drive the lessons for the day. In a professional aspect, you are facilitating the collaboration progress and you can share you ideas with your colleagues.
I also found a website called http://www.classroom20.com. This site is a Twitter for educators. There are tons of groups that you can join based on interest and forums you can post to. What I like about this page is that they approve your membership first to avoid spammers. By looking at these sites I have learned that you have to invest your time outside of the classroom to be most effective in the classroom.
