Crystal's Intro Letter

Hi Everyone! My name is Crystal and I primarily grew up in Yorba Linda, CA. From K-6 I went to Glenknoll Elementary School and then attended Bernardo Yorba Middle School for 7th and 8th grade. During high school is where my natural progression through school with all my friends took a turn. I spent my freshman year at Esperanza High School which is located in Anaheim, CA since Yorba Linda did not have its own high school. After my freshman year I decided to live with my dad in Texas. I attended Granbury High School in Granbury, TX from my sophomore year and the majority of my junior year. In February of my junior year I decided that I wanted to move back to California and spent the remaining months of my junior year at Esperanza. The January before I moved back to California I had met my first love which brought me back to Texas during the summer before my senior year. My senior year was spent back in Granbury which is where I graduated. After high school I took a semester off before I started at a community college in Weatherford, TX. About midway through my first semester in college I decided that the butterflies had fizzled in my relationship and I was bound for bigger and better things which of course could only be found in California. So, I packed up my little Cavalier and moved back to California. At the time, I was working full time with Blockbuster Video and was lucky enough to transfer my job. I started back at school at Rancho Santiago Community College located in Orange, CA. After about 3 semesters of going to school part time and taking night courses to accommodate my job, I decided one day that I was not going to go back to class and my professors would take care of dropping me. Looking back on my transcripts today that was a huge mistake. In 2007 my boyfriend (now my husband) and I moved from Sonoma County so San Diego county which is when I started attending MiraCosta College. Last semester I was finally able to start at CSUSM which is where I am at today.
Technology comes fairly easy to me but I would put myself in the beginner/intermediate category at best. Programs today come fairly user friendly but it still does not stop the electronics at my in-laws from going hay wire. I put myself in the beginner stages because I previously worked for a computer software company called CA. It was a fabulous job with great pay and benefits but all the technical jargon did the least bit to interest me. Even though I picked up the concepts of the program my particular location developed I still found it to be very overwhelming just working in the computer support side. I also place myself in the intermediate side because I am able to get by on day to day tasks with our technology at home and I am able to troubleshoot and fix any issues we have.
The portion of the COE Mission Statement that stands out to me is the portion on collaboratively transforming public education. Public education is in need of a huge overhaul but with limited funds it stays motionless in its current budget state. I chose to attend CSUSM because of the positive things I had heard from other people in comparison to other San Diego colleges.

  1. Hi Crystal,
I believe im in the same state as you are when it comes to technology..Its easy enough to do what I need or want to do, but by no means do i consider myself an expert! Hopefully this class will teach us new techniques that we can incorperate in the classroom.

  2. Sounds like you had quite the adventure in Texas. I have debated moving there myself. I agree with your sentiment about public education needing some major transformations. Sometimes the system seems to be creating more problems than solutions.

  3. Hello Crystal,
It's been something for me to get acclaimated to college life again. I do love computers but also consider myself a beginner and hope to learn much in this class.
